Senior Quantity Surveyor
Bristol | Hybrid | £95,000 - £100,000 | Permanent
Vargo Group is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a specialist contractor delivering low-carbon energy infrastructure. The business designs and installs district heating networks, energy centres and associated mechanical and civil engineering works.
You will take commercial responsibility for projects, working closely with delivery teams to control costs, manage contractual risk and protect project profitability from procurement through to final account.
The role
- Manage project budgets, cost plans, forecasts and commercial reporting, providing a clear view of performance, cash flow and cost to complete.
- Prepare and review valuations, applications for payment and final accounts, maintaining accurate supporting records.
- Identify, price and negotiate variations and changes to scope, keeping contractual notices and commercial records up to date.
- Manage the commercial aspects of subcontract procurement, including enquiries, tender comparisons, package negotiations and subcontract accounts.
- Assess subcontractor applications, agree valuations and support accurate, timely payment processes.
- Work with project managers, engineers and finance colleagues to identify risks early, challenge cost pressures and agree practical action.
- Maintain constructive client and supply-chain relationships and support the development of junior commercial colleagues.
What you will bring
- Substantial quantity surveying experience with a contractor, including responsibility for the commercial delivery of projects.
- A strong grasp of construction contracts, procurement, valuations, change control and final accounts.
- The ability to turn project information into accurate forecasts and clear commercial advice.
- Confident negotiation, organisation and communication skills, with a practical approach to resolving issues.
- A quantity surveying or related qualification, or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience in district heating, utilities, energy infrastructure, mechanical services or civil engineering would be particularly relevant. Professional membership is welcome but is not a requirement.
The opportunity
A salary of £95,000 - £100,000 and hybrid working based in Bristol, with the opportunity to take ownership of commercial delivery on projects supporting the transition to lower-carbon heating.
