Job Description

Job Title: Senior Product Manager (Contract)

Day Rate: £400 – £500/day (Outside IR35)

Location: Remote (UK-based) with monthly client site visits

Duration: 6 Months (Initial)

Role Overview

Vargo requires an experienced, autonomous Senior Product Manager to provide strategic direction and hands-on delivery leadership across multiple product teams on a large-scale transformation programme.

Operating outside IR35, you will be responsible for defining product strategy, managing key deliverables, and ensuring execution meets high standards within a complex stakeholder environment. Experience working within Government Digital Service (GDS) environments is beneficial, though not essential.

Key Deliverables & Responsibilities

  • Product Strategy & Delivery: Define end-to-end product roadmaps and translate high-level strategies into clear execution plans using Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid frameworks.

  • Execution & Sign-Off: Review and sign off on user stories, sprint backlogs, and key deliverables while keeping teams focused on core priorities and unblocking delivery obstacles.

  • Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with senior business stakeholders, operational leads, and third-party delivery partners to align strategy with outcomes.

  • User-Centric Design: Drive product decision-making focused on user needs and continuous improvement across delivery streams.

  • Consultative Support: Act as an expert advisor to help identify client challenges, refine solution architectures, and contribute technical insights to account planning where relevant.

Key Requirements

  • Proven track record of delivering multi-team digital product initiatives within complex transformation programmes.

  • Strong delivery control across scope, timelines, and cross-functional teams.

  • Deep experience in Agile/Scrum delivery environments (GDS/public sector experience is a strong plus).

  • Ability to operate with high autonomy, clear accountability, and a delivery-focused outcome model.
