Job title: Head of Credit

Salary: up to £60k + car allowance+ other benefits

Location: Hybrid in Wolverhampton

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the sanctioning team, ensuring credit decisions are consistent, well-judged and delivered within agreed service level targets, while coordinating team capacity to meet operational demand.
  • Act as the initial approval point for new loan appraisals and due diligence prepared by Business Development Managers, ensuring applications are ready to progress through the credit process.
  • Maintain and strengthen adherence to credit policy, taking responsibility for reviewing and enhancing credit policies, procedures and internal processes when required.
  • Ensure all loan applications comply with the rules of relevant funding programmes and guarantee schemes.
  • Provide coaching, guidance and development support to the Business Development Manager (BDM) team.
  • Support the Business Development function in onboarding and training new BDMs, particularly in the preparation and presentation of loan applications.
  • Provide training and professional development for members of the sanctioning team.
  • Monitor macro-economic and political developments that may impact lending activities. Update credit policies, appraisal processes and training materials accordingly.
    This may include identifying sector-specific risks and implementing tailored appraisal guidance and training.
  • Contribute to the organisation’s strategic direction through insight from credit operations.
  • Prepare and deliver management information and reporting as required.
  • Support the preparation of funding applications.
  • Promote continuous improvement, contributing to the development of systems, processes and operational practices, while engaging in personal and professional development.
  • Represent and promote the organisation’s services through attendance at networking events, conferences, exhibitions and industry activities.
  • Comply with organisational policies and procedures, including the Performance Management Framework and Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • Work in partnership with the Portfolio and Compliance Manager to ensure systems, processes and controls remain compliant with FCA regulatory requirements.
