Senior Service Designer
Liverpool (Hybrid)
Up to £75,000 + Bens
This is a senior position partnering with public sector organisations to design and deliver impactful, user-centred digital services. The successful candidate will lead service design activity across large, complex public sector programmes, working directly with senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to design and deliver GDS-aligned services.
Core Responsibilities
- GDS Delivery: Apply Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and best practice design principles throughout discovery, alpha, beta, and live phases.
- Service Design Leadership: Lead the design of complex, end-to-end public services across both digital and non-digital channels. You will develop service blueprints, ecosystem maps, user journeys, and operating models.
- User-Centred Design: Lead and oversee user research activity, translating user needs into actionable service improvements. You will facilitate co-design workshops and ensure accessibility and inclusion compliance.
- Public Sector Integration: Work within multidisciplinary agile teams alongside product managers, delivery managers, developers, and policy leads. You will confidently engage with Senior Responsible Owners (SROs) and balance user needs with policy intent and technical constraints.
- Capability Building: Provide mentorship to junior designers and client teams, promoting service design maturity within client organisations.
Required Expertise
- Significant experience designing services in complex public sector environments.
- A strong understanding of the GDS Service Standard and the full digital delivery lifecycle.
- Proven ability to lead service design within large transformation programmes and create high-quality service design artefacts for senior audiences.
- Experience supporting or leading GDS service assessments is highly desirable.
